UDR Digital Archives

Thanks to the Furthermore Foundation for their generous grant of $4,000 to support the creation of AUD's digital archives.

Thanks to AUD supporters for donations to cover the purchase of a scanner and media drive!

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to donate to the Union Democracy Archive, there’s still the time – and the need! Whether you can afford 5, 10, or even 100 dollars – your donations go a long way in helping to preserve our history of the fight for union democracy.

(Background: the AUD office contains the text of numerous substantial labor law cases, and hundreds of issues of the Union Democracy Review and its predecessor, Union Democracy in Action. We want to make this rich source of information available and easily accessible. The first step is to digitize our stores of newsletters and union democracy court cases.

We've already made a few inroads by scanning important cases such as Daniels v. Pipefitters LU 597. The next step is to create a keyword searchable database -- an AUD equivalent of Google. Please help us make this terrific resource available to unionists, researchers, students and anyone interested in the history of union democracy.

Website redesign. We are working on a website overhaul (using Drupal 6.*). It's a DIY project and very time-consuming, but we are learning a lot and the work should result in a website that enables us to build upon the community of AUD supporters and "crowdsource" some of our work. Donations of money or technical help (php, css, xhtml) are welcome. (5/22/09)

Pay our webhosting bill? $120 should do it.
